Timp Caves

TimThe weekend of July 24th was super fun since Grandpa and Tyson both had work off on Monday. We took advantage and hiked to Timp Caves like we had been wanting to do all summer. Aiden was a super hiker and loved being big to hike right by us. But thankfully he also loved being in the backpack and didn't fight it when he got tired.
When we got to the entrance of the trail, Smokey the Bear was there saying hi and giving out pencils. Aiden LOVED him!! He was more than happy to give him hug after hug and hi fives and take pictures. It was so cute.

Aw cute. Look at him adoring Smokey!

I LOVE this picture! A lot of the time Aiden hiked faster then any of the rest of us. He was so determined to make it up the trail and go inside the "tunnel". (He didn't know what a cave was yet, just a tunnel.)
Aiden and Mommy waiting to go in the cave.
We made it! I have forgotten how steep that dang trail is!
After we took a tour of the cave we sat on the benches enjoying the view and eating a snack.
Aiden went to town on the Nutter Butters. Well really just the filling. He would scrape it all off and then choose someone to eat the cracker part for him.

After all the steep hiking Aiden was completely wiped out and slept probably at least half of the ride down.

After the hike down we crossed the road to a little picnic area and had a yummy lunch. Aiden woke up from his power nap and had a blast throwing rocks and sticks into the river with Tyson.

Wow! Watch the big splashes!
Since we were already halfway up the canyon we decided to just drive a little farther and take a walk around Cascade Springs. Aiden had so much fun again, especially on the boardwalks that he could stomp really hard and make a loud noise.
We were super hot after hiking so much in the hot sun so when we passed the drinking fountain Grandma taught Aiden to put water on his head and neck to cool down. She also taught him to "throw" it at everyone around him to "cool them down" too. He thought it was absolutely hilarious!
We LOVE hiking! It's really too bad we didn't  take time to go on more this summer. I guess next year we'll have to make it a priority especially since Aiden will be an ever better hiker!
